53-Year-Old Pedestrian Injured In ‘Hit & Run’

A 53-year-old male pedestrian is in stable condition after hit and run collision this morning [May 21] in Hamilton.

A police spokesperson said, “Approximately 1am Monday, May 21st police and fellow first responders attended a reported collision on Parliament Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Church Street.

“It appears that a motorcyclist riding along Parliament Street struck a male pedestrian, knocking him to the ground. The offending motorcyclist then struck a nearby parked car, damaging its wing mirror, before falling to the ground.

“However, the unknown rider quickly got back on the motorcycle and rode off.

“The pedestrian, believed to be a 53-year-old Pembroke man, was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a suspected head injury.

“At last check 9:30am today [May 21st] the injured pedestrian was in stable condition. A further update on his medical condition will be provided in due course.

“Traffic was diverted away from the area for approximately two hours while the relevant police personnel processed the scene.

“Police have reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for the motorcyclist involved to turn themselves in to Hamilton Police Station.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses or persons with information regarding the rider of the motorcycle involved, said to be a blue step through type with front end damage – or the motorcycle’s location – are encouraged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
